Violet Makes Her Mark for Team GB

Senior School

03 May 2024

Year 11 archer, Violet Walker, has returned from a successful week representing Great Britain in the 2024 European Youth Cup (first leg) in Bulgaria. Violet has had an outstanding season so far, completing in the U18 category despite being only 15 years old.

Day 2 was the official practise day and scores determined the rankings for the head to heads for the rest of the week. Violet shot 657/720 which saw her ranked 7th in the U18 women’s competition. Her first match was against an athlete from Bulgaria and Violet stormed to victory. Next up was Violet’s counterpart from Luxembourg who ranked 2nd in qualification and so the match was bound to be tight. Violet remained focused and determined throughout the match, eventually emerging victorious by two points.

Violet was now in the semi-final against a familiar face; her British teammate. Always a close match between the two, Violet unfortunately lost on this occasion. However, achieving 4th overall is an impressive achievement and we are so proud of Violet; she has worked incredibly hard in the build up to the competition, completing additional strength and conditioning sessions alongside revision for her GCSE examinations. She is a true role model.

Alongside individual matches Violet also competed as part of a team and in qualification they ranked an impressive 1st, putting them straight into the gold medal match against Italy. The final had it all: lightning, delays and nerves of steel as the lead was exchanged between the two teams. Unfortunately, Team GB were unable to hold onto their lead, losing the match by two points. We look forward to seeing Violet’s silver medal at our Sports Personality awards evening next week.

Violet is now aiming to qualify for the European Youth Championships later this year - we’re rooting for you, Violet!
