A festival of sport
30 June 2017
On Friday 23 June, after a week of soaring temperatures we were very relieved to wake to a cooler day, just perfect for Sports Day. We held not one Sports event but three!
The morning began with Westbourne Activity morning. All girls from Nursery to Reception were involved. The Nursery girls used many of their regular toys in their races after their opening parachute ceremony. A highlight was the ‘Baby’ race which highlighted how much hard work is involved in looking after a baby. They had to put on their going out clothes, get the pushchair and bottle ready, pick up the baby run to the venue before finally enjoying a cup of tea.
Meanwhile Kindergarten and Reception were engaged in a whole range of races including running, skipping, jumping, obstacle and of course, egg and spoon. They thoroughly enjoyed representing their coloured teams. Their parents did a great job too and set a good example to their daughters who cheered mums and dads on.
Later in the morning it was the turn of the Year 1 and 2 girls. They competed with great determination in their various races whether skipping with a rope, jumping in a sack or running as fast as they could. The results of this House competition with congratulations to all the girls.
The afternoon brought our Year 3 to 6 athletes to the field. As ever, the Houses were very vocal in their support of their team mates and that became a further competition. There were serious running races and relays of varying distances, throwing and jumping field events and the usual novelty races. After a busy afternoon the winners were announced as Frank.
Well done to all of our Prep School athletes.
