Baking a success of it

16 June 2017

It has been a busier than normal baking week at EHS. On the first day of the legendary House Bake Off, St Francis took an early lead thanks to the brilliant botanical breads baked by Aishah Ali in Year 7. Their last minute substitute did them proud! Well done to all of the Year 8 competitors for baking such super Secret Garden scones on Tuesday! Lucy Atkins took St. George into an overall lead with a delicious batch of light and airy cherry scones. Wednesday saw the Year 9 baking their blooming biscuits. Hedaya Habib and Tahniyat Mughal gave St. Patrick their first win of this year with their Garden Party Biscuits. This means that midway through the competition, St. George and St. Patrick were joint leaders. But with two rounds left, any house could still win. The Year 10 Floral Fancies proved a real challenge for our two experienced judges, they were the ‘most artistic bakes ever judged’ and the girls all excelled. But it was Zaineb Al-Ani and Leena Medani who won this round for St. David. Many congratulations!

Well done to all the House Captains and Deputies for their continuing enthusiasm and practical support, including, of course, washing up over the week. A big thank you to Dr Weeks and Mrs Coley for being such committed judges. The final round taking place next week sees the House Captains go head-to-head and we shall bring you news of the winners in the next issue of Friday Headlines.
