Budding entrepreneurs from Year 6

06 May 2016

Year 6 girls enjoyed a range of activities last week to extend their knowledge.  A number of these tested their entrepreneurial skills.

One task was to create a product and persuade their teacher to buy it. The challenge required girls to use their Mathematics, English, ICT, PSHE and Performance Skills to research and create their pitches.

In a further challenge the girls were tasked with setting up and running a fictitious design and marketing agency and their first assignment was to devise a business name and logo. Then, with the emphasis on the product, they began to make decisions based on information received about designing and marketing a new trainer for a big brand sports company.

They worked hard to understand the link between planning and good decision-making whilst learning about what it takes to be successful in business. Business terminology was studied and
ICT-generated models of the new trainers were created individually.

The marketing of their newly devised product involved producing ideas for an advertisement that not only showed this latest trainer design but how the brand had evolved over the last few years.

The girls enjoyed the sessions, using their problem-solving and creative skills to produce work that they can be proud of.

We certainly have some entrepreneurs in the making!

At the end of the week the girls tried their hand at 'Fire Writing'.  Everyone remained cool and calm when their paper frustratingly set alight but those with patience and a steady hand were rewarded with a keepsake to take home.
