Promoting classics for all

On Thursday 5 October, the Classics department welcomed representatives from the national charity ‘Classics for All’. This organisation seeks to introduce the teaching of Classics into schools nationwide and promote the value of the subject.
Edgbaston High School’s Classics department has been selected as a centre for excellence and was asked to host a group of teachers who are seeking to introduce the study of Classical Greek into their schools. The visitors observed a Year 10 Greek lesson and had the opportunity to talk to our Year 11 and Year 12 students. Our girls were excellent ambassadors for the school, articulating their views and opinions with confidence.
The visiting teachers have been inspired to introduce Classical Greek clubs into their schools and the charity has passed on their thanks to the girls and to the school for their warm welcome. We look forward to continuing to support this worthwhile endeavour in the future.
