Students join the political debate

Sixth Form

01 December 2017

On Friday 24 November, a group of Year 12 and 13 students had the exciting opportunity to take part in Birmingham Rotary Club's annual Democracy Forum.

This prestigious event, which is held in the historic City of Birmingham Council Chamber, provides young people with the chance to meet prominent politicians and to engage them in discussion and debate about contemporary political issues. Schools from across the Birmingham region were represented and, following an opening address from the city's Lord Mayor, students were invited to submit their questions to a panel of politicians in a Question Time format.

Among the panellists was Preet Gill, the Labour MP for Edgbaston and Anthea McIntyre, Conservative MEP for the West Midlands. The event was ably chaired by BBC presenter Peter Morgan. EHS students submitted some creative and thought-provoking questions and responded enthusiastically to the opportunity to share their views with their peers.

The girls really enjoyed being at the political debate and voicing their opinions on a wide variety of issues, ranging from student fees to the implications of Brexit.
