Flash Academy language learning

17 February 2017

We are delighted to be able to offer the language learning app ‘Flash Academy’ to all pupils in Years 8 - 11 during the current academic year.

The Modern Languages department has invested in the app which will help girls to learn independently with recordings from native speakers, a variety of vocabulary and grammar units, and games at the end of each unit. Pupils gain points as they make progress.

We also have a leaderboard (which only the teachers can see) and we will be awarding prizes for girls who have made the most progress at the end of each term. After half term, teachers will give each pupil a ‘classroom code’ to enable staff to monitor progress and reward effort. Years 9 - 11 will find the app already downloaded onto their iPads, and Year 8 will need to download the app onto their own devices themselves. All girls should have received their login details via their school email.

We are particularly excited about the introduction of this app as EHS is a pilot school, and have therefore been given the opportunity to work with the company to give feedback and influence the development of the app. We expect that all girls will make the most of the resource to improve their vocabulary and language skills. This will be especially relevant for girls studying GCSE as it serves as a valuable revision tool for listening, reading and translation skills.
