Talented Kate has summer to remember

08 September 2017

It has been a summer to remember for Year 12 student Kate Buxton who took part in not one, but three national level events during July and August.

The early part of the summer was spent playing four different saxophones with both the National Scout and Guide Concert Band and Big Band as they performed a series of concerts across the Midlands.

This was followed by two weeks in London as Assistant Stage Manager for the National Youth Music Theatre company for their sold out production of Stephen Sondheim's award winning musical, ‘Sunday in the Park with George’, staged at Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Other Palace Theatre.

After a couple of days’ technical work on the EHS production of Phantom of the Opera, Kate finished off her summer working as part of the technical team for the National Youth Ballet of Great Britain's ‘Time in Motion’ performances at Birmingham's Crescent Theatre.

"It's been an amazing summer and three fantastic experiences," said Kate. "One of the highlights was getting emails from Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber and the Sondheim Society before our show opened in London. It's been fantastic to work with three such talented groups of young people."

We look forward to hearing more about Kate’s experiences over the coming year, including her work on the EHS production of Phantom of the Opera which opens on Tuesday 31 October.
