Author Lauren James to visit EHS

Senior School

16 March 2018

On Wednesday 28 March, the Senior School will be hosting Lauren James, already well known and loved for her novels, “The Loneliest Girl in the Universe” and “The Next Together”. Blending a love for science with a passion for writing, Lauren writes amazingly accessible Sci-Fi novels that are based on her own real-life calculations. She will be giving her “Writing with STEM” talk to our Year 9-11, followed by a Q&A and book signing. You can find the description of her talk below:

“A talk about my writing with a focus specifically on how I came to write science fiction after studying Chemistry and Physics at Masters level. I discuss how scientific research I’ve done has inspired events in my novels. I also show a presentation including examples of spreadsheets used to accurately calculate the figures involved in my writing, such as spaceship travel times and time travel figures. It includes a discussion of Einstein’s theory of relativity, time dilation, CERN’s Large Hadron Collider and more science, talked about in an enthusiastic, easy-to-understand way.”
