Linguists visit Boppard am Rhein
28 April 2017
During the Easter holidays the EHS German Department took a group of Year 8 and 9 pupils to the beautiful town of Boppard to enjoy a little German culture and explore this most picturesque Rhineland region.
We visited two medieval castles, Burg Eltz and Marksburg Castle, and thanks to our excellent guides the girls were able to learn a lot about the castles themselves and about life in Germany in the Middle Ages. We were also lucky enough to take the cable car ride over the Rhine to the Ehrenbreitstein fortress in Koblenz and find out something about how this fortress was originally built to defend the region against the French. We also enjoyed a cruise on the Rhine and everyone conquered their fears and took the Boppard chair lift to admire the amazing panoramic views of the river at the top.
The final day was spent at Phantasialand; the chair lift paled into insignificance when compared to the Black Mamba, the Talocan and the Chiapas log flume which features the steepest drop in the world!
I would like to thank the girls for being such great company and Mrs Johnson, Mr Flox and Miss Monet-Rossetti for their invaluable help and support.
