Suzanne Barnes Design Award
26 May 2017
On Wednesday 24th May a school assembly was led by the D&T Textiles Department. Sixteen Year 10 girls paraded into the hall exhibiting their unique and fabulously innovative A-line dresses, all of which were inspired by the Birmingham Skyline.
This was a highlight of our Fashion Show earlier in the month and provided the teachers and students in the assembly with a flavour of the garments which were showcased. During the Autumn Term Year 12 students had the opportunity to work with interior designer Suzanne Barnes, for this year’s Suzanne Barnes Design Award.
Ms Barnes set a brief for the task: this year’s theme was to explore the shapes and colours of the 1990s. Ms Barnes visited the girls on a number of occasions to see the range of fabric manipulations and prints created. After lots of development and hard work, Ms Barnes judged the collections the girls created. After much deliberation, the Suzanne Barnes Design Award was given to Mia McGuire, with the runner up award given to Amandeep Birdi.
Congratulations to all girls for some fantastic work.
