02 March 2018

At the end of last half term, we congratulated the three winners of the RE Subject Challenge and presented the prizes. The new challenges on a Science theme are now on display and we hope many girls will be inspired to enter posters for the British Science Week competition. Entries must be handed to Mrs Eveleigh by 24 March.

All girls in Prep also had the chance to experience their own version of ‘Strictly’ when Amy Dowden from the BBC show and her partner Ben ran several workshops. The girls were introduced to a variety of dance styles and learnt some group routines. The only things missing were the sequins and spray tan as Amy and Ben brought all of the excitement of the studio to the Octagon. The girls are now extremely excited about the new club being introduced in May.

We began this half term with a dress rehearsal of the ‘Bodies Assembly’ presented by Year 1 girls who are looking forward to performing for their parents at the end of the week. The assembly is an extension of the curriculum work that the girls have been studying in Science.

There has also been sporting success this week to celebrate. A group of swimmers from Years 5 and 6 travelled to Bromsgrove for the invitational relay competition and we are pleased to announce that our teams qualified for the finals in both the Medley and Freestyle relays.

Our Year 5 Netball Squad also enjoyed their first matches of the season against Bromsgrove which were played indoors due to the adverse weather conditions. The A Team was narrowly beaten 2 – 0 after a very close match and the B Team won their match 4 – 0. Well done to all players, especially Phoebe Cruise and Georgie Gillott named players of the match.

We have ended the week with an assembly to mark World Book Day and we hope the girls have enjoyed designing a Book Token for the national competition. Year 2 will report next week on their visit to Thinktank to extend their Science studies. We will also bring news of the winners of the Prep Young Musician of the Year finals.

We wish Year 4 girls an enjoyable Manor Adventure trip next week and hope that the weather will be a little warmer for their visit.
