the weekly newsletter from Dr Ruth Weeks, Headmistress
11 September 2015
It does not seem a week ago since we were welcoming everyone back to school after the holiday but we are now settling into the routines of the new term. The girls are getting used to their new teachers and timetables and have enjoyed renewing their friendships.
This first full week has been a busy one. It started on Monday with the announcement of our new Head and Deputy Head Girls, Abida Mohamed and Lauren Gillott. We also awarded badges to the prefects and House Captains with many other posts of responsibility in Year 6 to be announced next week. The posts of Charity and Eco Reps and Form Captains in the younger forms were also decided and announced. All girls are looking forward to being involved in helping in the school.
Wednesday was a special day for Queen Elizabeth II and all girls in Prep were involved in activities to mark the day. In the morning, girls and staff in the Prep Department gathered in the Octagon for a special assembly. We shared information about the Queen's sense of duty, coronation and reign as she has become the longest reigning monarch. We sang the national anthem and sent our best wishes to Her Majesty.
Mrs Collins and Mrs Barton also raised the Union Flag as girls gathered around the flagpole to watch.
Girls in Westbourne coloured royal pictures and made crowns to celebrate and our Nursery princesses went for a royal walkabout. During their walk they observed the Prep Palace builders at work and visited Prep Office. We hope that Queen Elizabeth II enjoyed her special day as much as we did.
We also enjoyed meeting parents at our Information Evenings and look forward to seeing everyone at events during the year.
