Last week ended with many visitors in Year 1. First thing in the morning the girls’ parents were invited to drop in to share their recent work. Then at the end of the day the parents of Reception girls came to visit so that they could see where the girls will move to in September.
This week has been a quiet yet very busy week with Year 5 away at Cranedale and Year 6 in France. It has been exciting to hear what the girls have been doing in the daily telephone calls from staff and we are all looking forward to their return. We know they will have many stories to tell.
Year 3 girls enjoyed the glorious weather as they spent a day in the outdoors at Lickey Hills on Wednesday and half of the girls in Year 4 travelled to London on Thursday. There is certainly going to be much to report on next week.
There has been much going on in the classrooms too. As you can see from the additional story, Nursery girls have been investigating water and its importance. In Kindergarten they have looked at a different liquid as they made fruit into juice. This was an extension of their work on the letter sound ’j’ which they very much enjoyed as you can see from the pictures below.
In History and English Year 3 girls have been reading the legend of Beowulf and Grendel. They all designed ‘Wanted’ posters to try to capture the evil monster Grendel. They had to include a detailed description of Grendel, a picture of him and offer a generous reward for his capture, dead or alive! The Year 3 teachers were impressed by the effort all the girls had made with their posters and found it a very difficult competition to judge. After much deliberation, they awarded three prizes for each class and one overall winner. In the winners’ photograph below the girls are all showing their Grendel faces!
Next week continues to be busy with a gala for Year 3 and 4 girls against Blue Coat School, the Medical Mavericks workshop for Year 6 and the other half of Year 4 visiting the Golden Hinde. We also look forward to having our older pupils back at school and to welcoming parents of Year 5 girls to the Inter House swimming gala on Thursday afternoon.
