Tasty homework assignment for Spanish students
31 March 2017
This term, Year 9 have focused their learning not only on grammar and vocabulary, but also on culture.
First, the girls had the opportunity to practise their speaking skills in the context of buying fruit and vegetable in a market. Then, to finish the topic of ‘Food and Drink’, the girls were given a rather tasty homework assignment: to research the recipes for several Spanish dishes, ranging from ‘albóndigas’ (meatballs) to flan (crème caramel).
On Monday 27 March, the girls brought their culinary creations to the lesson to be enjoyed by other members of Year 9, as well as myself, Miss López and Miss González. We were all very impressed by the high standard of cooking and the effort put in by all girls who managed to prepare their dishes on time for the lesson. Unsurprisingly, all food disappeared from the plates within minutes (even my rather unattractive ‘tortilla de patata’)!
A huge thank you and well done to the following girls who made this experience possible for everyone:
Aisha Ali - flan de vainilla y caramelo (vanilla crème caramel)
Aisha Aqdis and Riya Chahal - magdalenas de chocolate (chocolate fairy cakes)
Lobna Ewies, Rita Muttalib - gambas al ajillo (garlic prawns)
Laila Kika - flan de huevo y caramelo (egg créme caramel)
Fiona Mellor and Harriet Stanaway - albóndigas a la jardinera (Spanish style meatballs)
Elisha Sandhu, Tulsi Thapar - churros
