Strong Show by Novice Gymnasts
16 December 2011
On Friday 9 December, our Year 6 Novice gymnasts took part, with two girls from Year 7, in the Birmingham Schools Novice Gymnastics Competition.
The girls were nervous as this was the first gym competition most of them had ever taken part in but with encouragement from Mrs Collins and from each other they all performed very well. This was also the first competitive outing for the new team leotards donated by the EHS Parents' Association, for whose support we are most grateful.
First, the girls performed their floor routines which saw Hannah T placed fourth and Esther in second place as individuals. Then they took part in the vault which most of them managed to soar over with room to spare. The individual results for this competition were a fourth place for Teja, third place for Florence and a first place for Hannah R.
The girls had been divided into two groups at the beginning of the afternoon for the team competition. There was much to celebrate for both teams as the Blue team of Hannah R, Florence, Georgie and Maddie was placed fourth overall and the Red team of Jessica, Esther, Hannah T, Teja and Sophie came second.
These were very impressive results especially as the girls were competing in the U12 class against Secondary School girls. Our congratulations to them all.
