Students organise Foodbank collection

Senior School

17 November 2017

In October, as part of our Harvest Celebrations, the Year 9 and 10 Charity Representatives organised a foodbank collection for the Birmingham Central Foodbank. They are a charity supported entirely by donations from supermarkets, schools and churches; they receive no funding for their work. Last year they fed almost 5,000 people who were in need, a third of whom were children.

Pupils were provided with a shopping list of suggested items and we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our pupils. Many form groups needed additional boxes in order to collect their donations.

We have received a letter from the foodbank, thanking us for our generous donations. We donated over 240kg of food which will provide approximately 584 meals. This is the equivalent of feeding more than 50 football teams or 80 netball teams or, in fact, feeding everyone in the Senior School! Thank you to everyone who made a donation.
