Former pupil goes for gold
16 September 2016
We were delighted to see another former pupil making waves on the international sporting scene, this time at the Paralympic Games.
On Monday, EHS Old Girl Susie Rodgers won a gold medal in the 50m butterfly swimming in a stunning performance.
She has since become something of an internet sensation thanks to her incredulous reaction to winning gold! The video footage has been shared and viewed thousands of times and is being widely tipped as the enduring image of the games.
Susie has certainly made her mark in Rio, kick-starting her winning streak last week with a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle swimming.
Susie first competed on the international stage at the IPC World Championships in 2011. She was then selected to represent Great Britain at the London Paralympics in 2012 where she won bronze medals in the 100m freestyle and the relay, completing a hat trick of bronze medals by finishing third in the 400 metres freestyle.
Susie is well-remembered by staff who recall her not only as a talented swimmer but as a keen musician too.
We send our warmest congratulations to Susie on this truly inspiring achievement.
