Winner of the Prep Young Musician of the Year is announced!

04 March 2016

Following weeks of practice and auditions the final round of the Prep Musician of the Year was held on Friday 26 February. The Music staff, who had a very difficult job, selected 30 finalists from the 182 entries who performed. These girls all clearly deserved their places in the final. There was a wealth of talent on show featuring vocal solos and performers playing the piano, violin, flute, guitar and harp.  The rehearsals even brought the peacocks from the Botanical Gardens to listen! After the girls had performed in front of a delighted audience of friends and family a winner was chosen for each age group and we congratulate all of the musicians.

The winners were:

Year 3
Phoebe Cruice, Vocal Solo 'Castle on a Cloud' by Schönberg

Year 4
Heather Cooper, Trumpet Solo 'Spring' by Vivaldi
Rebecca Bazlov, Piano Solo 'Golliwog’s Cakewalk' by Debussy

Year 5
Natalia Stevenson, Vocal Solo 'When daisies Pied' by Arne

Year 6
Sundeep Mudhar, Guitar Solo 'Rumba' by Pearson

The Overall Winner and Prep Musician of 2016 was Derwent for playing 'Reverie' by Grandjany, on the harp. Our very grateful thanks to Mrs Heather Clemson who adjudicated the competition.

Well done to everyone!
