Year 5 Scientists Under The Microscope
19 June 2015
On Thursday and Friday of last week, pupils in Year 5 took part in practical Science sessions in the Senior School Biology laboratories.
The girls were set the task of locating and identifying creatures living in a sample of leaf litter. Skills acquired on the recent Cranedale trip were put into action when the girls consulted scientific keys in order to identify the creatures, this time with organisms living on land rather than in the pond. Being extra careful not to allow their subjects to escape, the girls viewed their creatures through microscopes and were surprised by how much detail they could see.
The girls were also given the opportunity to view various other living things under the light microscope including bed bugs and the leg of a fly!
Year 5 girls really enjoyed these sessions.
