Charity

Girls are encouraged to be aware of people in need in this country and abroad.

In Prep we hold a weekly silver bag collection and girls are encouraged to contribute pocket money silver coins. The total raised each week is acknowledged in assembly and our Care Bear is awarded each half term to the form which has made the largest contribution. Each year a charity is chosen for the silver bag money to be donated to.

We also have other fund raising events which support specific charities. In the autumn term our harvest festival produce is taken to the Birmingham Crisis Centre and we also hold a 'Pink Day' for Breast Cancer Care. Children in Need is another favourite charity to support and this year we enjoyed 'showing our spots.' At Christmas many girls pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.

We regularly donate money to an SOS orphan village in Bangladesh in addition to reacting to disaster situations in the world. Ideas to raise money are often suggested by the girls and we are impressed by their awareness of what is happening and their desire to help. In recent years we held a 'Hats for Haiti Day' and a 'Pyjamas for Pakistan Day.'

This year to help Comic Relief raise funds we held a 'Hilarious Hair day' which staff and pupils joined in with willingly.

Collections are taken after events such as the Carol Service and the Prep Concert and we are always grateful for the support which means we can help charities like 'Melody' which offers music to disabled children.

In alternate years a Readathon has been held in Prep which helps sick children and encourages the girls to read. This year we raised a tremendous total of several thousand pounds.

In the academic year 2010 - 2011 the girls in the Preparatory School raised the magnificent sum of £9232.
