Food & Nutrition and Textiles
Creativity and flair are encouraged and developed from Year 7 to the Sixth Form in both subject areas. Girls learn important technical and design skills and how to organise their time to meet deadlines; they manufacture useful textile products and prepare and cook tasty nutritious dishes.
The suite of rooms in the department is well equipped; new sewing machines including CAD/CAM machines in the Textiles area and modern labour-saving equipment in the Food room.
Our annual Fashion Show celebrates the achievements of our GCSE and A Level Textiles students and is held with an Afternoon Tea provided by the Food & Nutrition examination groups.
The Year 9 Christmas and Easter Cake competitions and the equally competitive Inter-House Bake-Off bring out the best talent.
Lunchtime and after school Textile workshops are led by our scholars fostering good practice across the year groups.
Visits abroad to Venice have taken place, in conjunction with the Art department.
The importance of first-hand experience is demonstrated in regular visits to London to the V&A and for Barbican for exhibitions-related Textiles. Our Food & Nutrition students appreciate the provenance of their food during visits to a variety of local farms including a cheesemaker and a flour mill.
