Music

EHS girls contribute widely to Birmingham's strong musical reputation through their practice and performance in School and by their involvement in the city's many youth choirs and orchestras

Alongside a wealth of extracurricular opportunities, the Music Department develop the skills of performing, composing and listening through a wide range of topics and contexts. The Music Curriculum at EHS continues to evolve to cater for the opportunities provided by Music Technology.

Within Year 7 Performing Arts, students work on collaborative projects between Music, Dance and Drama on different topics, including the Nutcracker. Year 8 Girls study the academic aspects of Baroque and Classical Music History and Composers whilst also enjoying practical performance and composition opportunities through Blues, Salsa and Reggae. Year 9 Girls study Romantic Music History and Composers whilst also experiencing different practical performance and composition tasks using our new keyboard laboratory, GarageBand, on their iPads and Sibelius in our Music Technology Suite.

The girls can opt to take GCSE and A Level Music, where they perform solo and ensembles pieces, produce compositions and develop their listening and appraising skills through the study of a variety of set works. Part of A Level composition focusses on Bach Chorales.

EHS girls regularly proceed to degree courses at university or conservatoires within the field of Music and some return to support our many events and functions.
