A Tudor Christmas
15 December 2023
At the end of last week, Year 4 transported us back in time to Selly Manor in Tudor England for a special assembly time treat.
Our audience of parents was welcomed to the Manor, by Lord and Lady Estelle, to join them for a feast and a wealth of seasonal entertainment. The servants at the Manor prepared a delicious feast accompanied by many facts about the Christmas traditions in the Tudor times. They explained about the significance of the decorations and food, interspersed with carols of the time and poems.
There was great excitement at the Manor when King Henry VIII and Queen Catherine arrived and everyone enjoyed a royal entertainment of stately Tudor dancing and the arrival of a travelling troupe of mummers. Lord and Lady Estelle were delighted to entertain their guests with the story of St George.
The Year 4 girls had clearly worked hard on learning lines, songs, poems and actions and it was most enjoyable to see their learning in action.
