Happy Birthday, EHS!

Established in 1876, Edgbaston High proudly holds the distinction of being the oldest independent girls' school in Birmingham, with this year marking a remarkable 148 years of educational excellence. To commemorate this milestone, the entire school community, from Nursery to Year 13, along with school staff, gathered for our annual Whole School assembly, a tradition that unites us all in celebration.

This year, Mrs Macro delivered a presentation reflecting on the pioneering spirit of Alice Cooper, the first Headmistress of EHS whose courageous journey abroad to explore educational practices in other institutions reflects the school’s continued commitment to innovation and excellence.

There were a variety of musical performances from all age groups:

- The Prep School pupils opened the assembly with a spirited rendition of 'Try Everything.'
- The Senior School united for a performance of 'The Climb.'
- Continuing what has become an EHS tradition, Kindergarten, Reception, and Years 1 and 2 delighted us with 'The Birthday Song.'
- Year 8 treated the audience to a vibrant Samba drumming display.

The assembly culminated with a performance of the School Song, followed by everyone singing 'Happy Birthday, EHS'.

Charlotte Smiley, Head Girl in the Prep School, and Nia Mehta, the youngest Senior School student, cut the celebratory cake and then joined the leadership teams from both Prep and Senior, along with Mrs Macro and Mrs Hartley, for a commemorative photo beside the official school cake.

Whilst we celebrate our rich history and embrace a progressive and inspiring approach to education we also eagerly anticipate the future, including the forthcoming celebration of our 150th anniversary in 2026!
