Meet the New Leadership Team
03 May 2024
With local elections in the news, the Senior School has just completed its own voting process to select the new Sixth Form Leadership Team. The results are in, and we're excited to announce the winners. Allow us to introduce the new Head Girl and Deputy Head Girls, who share their experiences, aspirations, and what makes our school such a unique and inspiring place.
Meet Ruby Gayle - Head Girl
Joined EHS: Year 7 from Harborne Primary School
A Level Subjects: French, Maths, Spanish
Ruby has been part of the EHS since Year 7. She shared how welcoming the environment was when she first started and how this helped her build confidence over the years. Being actively involved in a variety of roles and positions of responsibility in school, Ruby values the mix of fun and academics that EHS offers. "I've always loved the house events, especially the house gala, clubs, and school picnics," she says.
For Ruby, the school's personal approach to learning has been instrumental in her growth. "All the teachers are really enthusiastic about their subjects, and it's very encouraging," she notes. She credits her family for encouraging her to go for the Head Girl role, inspired by the characters in the books she used to read.
Meet Tyra Jambwa - Deputy Head Girl
Joined EHS: Year 7 from Hampstead Junior School
A Level Subjects: Business, Psychology, Sociology
Tyra joined EHS in 2018 and says she faced ‘some initial challenges’. However, with the support of her teachers and peers, she flourished academically. Embracing opportunities throughout the years, such as taking on the role of Form and Charity rep, have helped her gain confidence. Through LAMDA she is much more at ease with public speaking and her involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh award has given rise to a love of hiking and the great outdoors.
Tyra's inspiration to become Deputy Head Girl came from a previous Head Girl who encouraged her to consider the role. She shares, "It's a big role to take on, but I wanted to do one last thing for EHS as they've given us all so much, and we're completely different people to when we started, we’ve developed so much," With her newfound platform, Tyra aims to help students find their voice and build confidence. "I want to help people speak their truth," she says.
Meet Amy Sargeant - Deputy Head Girl
Joined EHS: Year 9 from Paganel Primary School
A Level Subjects: Business, English Literature, Sociology
Amy joined EHS a few years later than Ruby and Tyra, starting in Year 9. She attributes her journey in gaining confidence to the wealth of leadership opportunities at EHS and she has certainly overcome her initial shyness. "For me the leadership opportunities that we have here are so vast. I was so shy and timid, and I didn't want to be put in the spotlight. You start as a Form Rep and then suddenly you are Deputy Head Girl!" Amy recalls. Now, she's eager to step into leadership and play her part in building upon the school’s community.
Amy's grandfather, who was a Head Boy when he was at school, inspired her to put herself forward. "He told me all about his experiences just before the EHS process started, and knowing he followed a similar path gave me the confidence and encouragement," she explains.
Looking Ahead: Initiatives and Engagements
The new team is preparing for their first official engagements with the Senior Open Evening in June and the Year 7 Induction Day in July on the horizon, offering the perfect
opportunity for them to step into their roles and start making their mark.
The team is also busily brainstorming ways to enhance the Senior School, and they have some exciting initiatives in the works. They will work collaboratively to lead with their individual passions: Ruby is dedicated to expanding current programs; Amy plans to bring back some classic traditions, such as the legendary Sixth Form Sleepover; and Tyra is focused on empowering students to speak up and use their voices.
With their diverse backgrounds and shared commitment to EHS, the new team is ready to make a meaningful difference in the school community. We look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the months ahead!
