Prep Borrowed the Moon
15 March 2024
Girls in the Prep School are always interested in STEM subjects. Space is a particularly popular topic inspired by their studies in school in both History and Science and the annual visit from the inflatable planetarium, the Stardome.
In Year 2, Neil Armstrong and the first moon landing are part of the girls’ studies about famous people and events. This week the topic was brought to life when we ‘borrowed the moon’. We were able to study first hand actual lunar material including rocks from the moon and a selection of meteorites.
NASA has preserved some of the samples collected from the manned Apollo missions to the moon and they loan them to schools to provide a unique and exciting opportunity to allow our young scientists to engage with the world of space.
It is no wonder so many of the Prep girls have such a passion for the science and technology subjects and have aspirations for future careers in these fields.
