Preparatory

12 April 2024

Everyone returned from the holiday break excited to see each other and keen to begin lessons. In our first assembly of the term we welcomed a number of new girls to the Prep School and know they will settle in very quickly.

We also celebrated the success of the London Lions Women’s Basketball Team. This was of great interest to many of our older pupils who have been keen members of our Basketball Club.  Many of them enjoyed an evening watching the Birmingham Rockets women and men’s teams playing last term which was a great inspiration.

Our new co-curricular programme has also been announced for the Summer Term with some tennis and cricket coaching included and multi-sports for our Year 1 and 2 girls. The range of sports on offer continues to grow and to be enjoyed.

Year 6 girls have had a very busy start to the term too with preparations and rehearsals in full swing for their forthcoming production of ‘Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies’ taking place next week. Last minute tweaks have been made to costumes, set and props and there is an air of excitement in addition to much hard work.

Despite being busy Year 6 are also looking forward to reading the new additions to Prep Library. These are books bought with the Reading Champions prize awarded last year. They were recommendations made by The Padstow Bookseller based on the girls’ enjoyment of Robin Steven’s books.

In our first Celebration Assembly of the term we congratulated Robyn who recently ran in the OX5Run in support of Oxford Children’s Hospital Charity. Robyn ran with members of her family, including several younger members in pushchairs, and they raised nearly £300 for the hospital. Well done to all.

There is certainly much to look forward in the term ahead for everyone with House swimming galas and Sports Day, residential trips, day trips and workshops. There is certainly never a dull moment in the Prep School with learning within and beyond the curriculum and many of these activities can be followed on our social media postings.
