Year 12 Race for Life

Sixth Form

26 May 2023

On Sunday 21 May, 27 girls in Year 12 took on the Race for Life in Cannon Hill Park. We ran in memory of our beloved teacher and Head of Year, Miss Hayday.

It was a sunny morning meaning our spirits were high in anticipation of the 5K run ahead. Dressed as brightly as possible in pink tutus, pink tops, and with pink paint all over our faces, we looked and felt like a real team. Just before the race began, we had one final moment together, before our running abilities took us on separate paths, where Miss Hayday’s husband gave us some final inspirational words which meant so much to us as her team. He reminded us that Miss Hayday would be watching and cheering us along the way, creating a sense of togetherness through the struggle to 5K.

While running the race we were spurred on by our proud and supportive teachers, parents and fellow students, who cheered us on at every turn. Moments of the race were tough, but the sunshine, support and the special someone we were running for kept us going. Each girl that crossed the line then joined the sidelines, supporting the next EHS girls finishing.

The atmosphere when we realised we had succeeded was so special and a feeling we will all never forget, like the impact Miss Hayday had on us. In addition to this feeling of achievement, knowing we had raised almost £6,000 for Cancer Research UK added to our sense of doing our part in honour of somebody we loved so much.

The knowledge that Miss Hayday would be so proud of us gives us all much comfort and inspires us to challenge ourselves as she would have wanted.
