Cross Country Challenge
15 March 2024
We were all disappointed that the wet March weather had resulted in the postponing of the Hallfield Cross Country Invitational event due to take place on Friday March 1 but were delighted that it was able to take place on Friday of last week.
Our U9 and U13 teams set off to Hallfield full of running for an afternoon of cross country whilst members of our proposed U11 team were travelling off to their Netball Weekend.
The runners all had the chance to walk the course before the race and gain advice from the EHS staff, Miss McKee and Mrs Mortimer-Lane who had accompanied them.
The U9 team were first with a 1.2 km course ahead of them. They set off at a good pace cheered on by the Senior School pupils and were rewarded with some good finishing places. We were delighted to hear that Sofia had been placed third in the girls’ race.
Finally, it was the turn of the six excited Year 7 students to compete in the final race. The team had been training weekly to prepare for the event, showing great commitment and enthusiasm, even in the wet and muddy conditions.
Just like the junior team, the runners were undeterred by the boggy terrain and cold weather. After watching the Prep girls and being cheered on by them, the Year 7s were inspired to push themselves to their limits. Darcey was placed second overall in the age group and received a medal and certificate.
Well done to both teams who worked well together and supported each other through a really tough course, whilst thoroughly enjoying the experience.
