Our week started with a visit for Year 4 girls to St George’s Church as part of their RE curriculum. They enjoyed the trip to the church in our local community.

Whilst they were out of school our Year 6 girls were taking one of their final examinations for their move to Senior School next year. They have worked very hard and are now looking forward to learning new skills ahead and to enrichment activities.

The Year 6 girls are also enjoying their posts of responsibility and helping across the Prep School in many ways. Our Sports Captains, Ava, Maggie and Martha have been particularly busy this week. They helped Westbourne staff by inflating a bag full of new footballs and we hope they might have encouraged some future Lionesses!

The three girls also supported their teammates in the first gala of the academic year, swimming against Balsall Common School. This was a very competitive gala with our visitors winning by just two points. The Captains were pleased to offer the vote of thanks and the traditional three cheers. Well done to our Captains and all swimmers.

This gala was the very first one for our Year 3 girls who have been enjoying a whole range of new co-curricular activities including Construction and Classics Clubs and Karate.

Charlotte, Emily and Jessie, our Head and Deputy Head girls helped to organise the Harvest Assembly on Thursday morning in Prep. After finding out more about the harvest of a range of interesting crops around the world the girls were helped by the Year 3 – 5 Charity Reps to talk about what harvest means in our country. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to our collection of food which is being donated to the Birmingham Crisis Centre.

We have finished the week in a rosy glow of pink in our support of the breast Cancer charity, ‘Wear it Pink,’ which Ava and Zahra, Charity Champions introduced in our Celebration Assembly. There were congratulations to our Year 1 and 2 girls on a range of endeavours and individual presentations to Zahra Pirmohamed for taking part in a national Qur’an competition held in Birmingham and a LTA England tennis skills day. Well done to Madiha-Zahra Dhalla who was also presented with a trophy for gaining second place in the Lady Fizza Quran competition in the 8-11 category. Well done also to Sanaya Noman for earing her Ready, Set, Read certificate and medal. We always enjoy hearing about the successes of the girls and congratulate them all.

Mrs Aston also launched the new Challenge Board topic with the intriguing question, ‘What would the World Be Like Without Numbers?’ Miss Brown and Hannah and Mariam, two of our Art Monitors invited Year 6 to enter the upcoming Art Competition for their year group. We look forward to seeing the contributions for these challenges.

This has been a very busy half term and we look forward to the break which begins next week at the end of school on Wednesday 25 October with school resuming on Monday 6 November. We also look forward to the EHSPA Fireworks Party on Saturday, November 4. Do not forget to buy your tickets!
