We were pleased to welcome Year 6 back from their week in France. It was clear that they had really enjoyed the experience of being away together, meeting new people, visiting new places and experiencing a different culture. They arrived back to a very busy week.
This week began with a very special beyond the curriculum day, our Diversity Day, which you can read about in the separate story. We have enjoyed being reminded of the day each time we have passed the large sunflowers in Prep Hall and the display in Reception of the book, Sunflower Sisters, that inspired our day. Year 6 were also delighted to unveil their tie-dye t shirts made on Diversity Day. These were dried, untied and then modelled by the designers. The girls were justifiably proud of the results.
On Tuesday, Year 5 experienced a very different day when Professor McGinty arrived to transport them back to Victorian times. This workshop extended their History knowledge learnt in lessons. In the afternoon it was the turn of Year 3 to represent their Houses in the annual swimming gala. They all swam very well in individual races and in a number of relays and the winning House was Curie. Their developing skills delighted our parent supporters who had joined the gala after hearing about next year’s residential trip from some of the current Year 4 girls. The girls talked very animatedly about the activities, the food, the centre and, of course, being with their friends.
The Year 5 and 6 Teatime Concert on Thursday evening featured 21 of our senior musicians who delighted us with a varied programme of music. There were performances on piano, flute, violin, guitar, clarinet and voice. We reflected on this being the final Teatime Concert for Year 6 girls many of whom had played in each one since Year 3, and we thanked them for their commitment.
Friday brought our annual class photographs, the Year 6 Swimming Gala and our Celebration Assembly. We presented our Year 1 and 2 Well Done Certificates and a number of Independent Chocolate Challenge Board certificates to Anant Bharj, Lin Yi, Talia Hockley, Lily Pugsley and Esther and Ruth Li.
We always enjoy congratulating girls on their endeavours outside of school and this week there were further Coronation Gym Competition medals for Jashvita Santhosh. We also enjoyed watching a performance of Amaris Hayer’s winning dance performance announced last week and there were congratulations for Talia Hockley who has recently performed in a stage show of ‘Trouble’s A Brewin’ at His Majesty’s Theatre, Haymarket in front of an audience of 700 people. What a great experience!
We also drew the winners of this half term’s Courtesy Counts prizes. Well done to Himmat, Innayah, Genevieve, Hitha, Charlotte and Annabel. There were more prizes for the winners of our Dragon’s Den Project too. Year 6 girls had shown great initiative in designing and marketing new products and then pitching to the dragons to invest in their companies. In third place was Tech Wear, in second place, EDU Learn and in first place Eco Tech. Many congratulations to all of Year 6 for displaying such promising entrepreneurial skills. We are sure many of the girls are going to become business leaders of the future.
We hope everyone enjoys the half term break and on return to school we look forward to the Year 3 and 4 Teatime Concert, Year 6 Egyptian Day and Year 2 trip.
