STEM subjects are very much enjoyed by the girls in the Prep School who rise to the challenges that the subjects bring. They are also very adept at applying their STEM skills across the whole curriculum as appropriate.
This was shown by the quality of entries in the British Science Week Poster competition on the subject of ‘Time’ open to girls from Years 1 – 6. We also held our own internal competition and the year group winners were announced this week in our Celebration Assembly.
Our Year 6 House Captains chose Ada Lovelace as the topic of their assemblies for this week. They also challenged the girls to design a machine to help with homework using Ada as an inspiration. We are looking forward to seeing their inventions.
Year 6 girls relished the opportunity to use both their technology and Mathematics skills this week. As part of their Enrichment Programme the girls visited the Botanical Gardens to research information and images for a flyer they are producing to advertise the venue. Their iPADS were put to very good use. They have also enjoyed working collaboratively to solve some very challenging algebra and pie chart problems and to produce their stop motion animations.
Year 2 girls played snakes and ladders to test their 2, 5 and 10 times tables whilst working together to play a game. More collaborative working and sharing skills in Mathematics!
This term our Year 5 Super Scientists have been introduced to dissection which has been very hands-on. Their scientific knowledge is certainly being extended by the
breadth of topics covered in the co-curricular club.
Well done to our Super Scientists, Technology Wizards and Marvellous Mathematicians!
