At the end of the school year, Director of Music, Mr Robson, will be undertaking a cycle challenge to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Appeal (MND).  The cycle ride from Lands’ End in Cornwall to John O’Groats is famous for its gruelling distance covering the longest end to end route in the UK, approximately 900 miles.  He will be completing this ride with a friend who is well known to pupils at Edgbaston High School as he has visited the school on a number of occasions to give performances in the Octagon.  Hamish Scott is dancer with Birmingham Royal Ballet and alongside his performance work is a keen cyclist.

Motor Neurone Disease is a fatal condition without any known cure.  While relatively rare, there have been a number of high-profile cases in the press recently which have shone a light on this condition.  Athletes such as Dobbie Weir, Stephen Darby and Rob Burrow have spoken up about their experience fighting this degenerative condition. Mr Robson’s own experience with this condition came from when his grandmother was diagnosed with the disease, passing away after a two year battle. Money raised will be donated through their Just Giving page to help fund research into new MND therapies and human trials.

Over the course of the cycle ride, Mr Robson will update a JustGiving page (see link at end) with daily news on progress including pictures from the 12 day adventure when they will cycle northeast from Lands’ End heading towards Bristol, back to Birmingham via Gloucester and Worcester before continuing North to Lancashire and through the Lake District.  From there they will head towards the Scottish Border with the first stop in Scotland being the town of Lockerbie. They will push on northeast between both Glasgow and Edinburgh towards the Cairngorns National Park and for the final few days of the ride will be sticking closely to the Northeast Coast of Scotland as they make our way to the final stop at John O’Groats.
