EHS celebrates its 140th birthday!
29 January 2016
On Wednesday 27 January, EHS reached a milestone in its history: 140 years since the School was founded by George Dixon and other distinguished local families.
To celebrate the occasion, we held a whole School assembly in the Octagon where Dr Weeks and Mrs Hartley spoke about the history of EHS, complete with slides showing photographs of how the School has changed over the years. No birthday would be complete without a cake, especially at EHS, and so we were kindly baked a cake by one of our School cooks, Sue Boxley.
Miss Alice Jane Cooper was the first Headmistress of the school which was originally sited at the junction of Harborne Road and Hagley Road and is now the Marriott Hotel. For more of our 140 year-old history, please take a look at our Facebook page where we have posted many photos.
Thank you to all our pupils, parents and staff who make this School such a wonderful place and we look forward to celebrating many more birthdays!
