Next Generation Awards Scheme
10 June 2016
On Wednesday 25 May, Year 8 had the day off timetable to take part in the Birmingham Civic Society’s Next Generation Awards Scheme.
The Next Generation Awards Scheme is a highly successful Citizenship programme that has been run by the Birmingham Civic Society for the last ten years. Over 25,000 pupils have taken part in the scheme, with 2600 pupils participating in the programme last year alone.
The award scheme is aimed at groups of pupils aged 11 to 14, and is designed to meet many of the requirements of the Key Stage 3 Citizenship Curriculum, whilst also developing pupils’ personal, learning and thinking skills. The scheme asks pupils to work in teams to identify issues and trends affecting people in their community. They must conduct research and develop proposals for actions that would improve some aspect of life in the future. The highest quality entries will be presented to judges from the Birmingham Civic Society later this term for their consideration.
The girls had a very enjoyable day and came up with many brilliant ideas, ranging from encouraging vegetable planting in schools to running street parties for their communities! Well done, girls!
