Prep Sample Medical Careers at QE Hospital
24 March 2016
Last week, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Prep Science Monitors and the Head and Deputy Head Girl were given the opportunity to look at a range of careers in the Medical profession.
There were a number of different stands to visit and the photographs show the girls using the Doppler Ultrasound to find arteries and veins in an arm, looking at cytology slides and extracting DNA from strawberries. They also enjoyed identifying different substances which contain DNA (even tea and pasta contain DNA!)
Other experiences included learning how a hospital bed prevents bed sores, meeting the team who keep dialysis machines working properly, speaking to various healthcare professionals and making moulds of plastic ears which are used to ensure hearing aids are a snug fit. This visit coincided with STEM week activities at EHS.
