U14 Gymnasts Shortlisted for Sports Award

18 September 2015

The EHS Under 14 Gymnastics Team were delighted to have been nominated as finalists in the Junior Team of the Year category at the Birmingham Post Sports Awards 2015.

This year saw the girls take the title of Birmingham Schoolgirls Champions, coming first, second and third as individuals. They are also West Midlands champions, representing the county at the National Finals earlier this year and coming fifth out of 14 teams. The girls were thrilled to be featured in a recent article in the Birmingham Post. We also spotted another EHS pupil, Molly Bhol, a finalist for the Junior Team of with her team, Parkside Netball Regional U14 squad.

This is a fantastic achievement, especially as the girls train for just two hours per week and were competing against specialist gymnastic schools. Special thanks must go to teachers Mrs Hewison and Miss Jacks for their dedication to the girls' coaching and development.

On the evening of Thursday 17 September, staff from EHS attended the Birmingham Sports Awards 2015 at the Holte Suite at Aston Villa Football Club.

Guests were welcomed to the evening with a reception before enjoying a three course gourmet meal. Members of the P.E. department attended the ceremony to represent EHS, and were joined by a host of sporting celebrities including ITV weather presenter, Emma Jesson and Nigel Mansell CBE.

The EHS U14 gymnasts were placed as runners up in the category, narrowly missing out to the City of Birmingham Swimming Club. Many congratulations to the gymnastics team for the nomination and we look forward to trying again next year!
