Women Speak Out Event - Library of Birmingham
21 November 2014
The Library of Birmingham is hosting 'Women Speak Out', a programme of free activities, talks, films and an exhibition celebrating how women are challenging injustice and changing the world.
Naomi Wilcox-Lee, founder of the 'Sheroes of History' 'blog will present an interactive talk looking at the importance of celebrating heroines of the past and inspiring sheroes of the day.
There will be a screening of the 'Miss Representation' documentary, a film which uncovers a glaring reality we live with every day but fail to see. Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the film exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. The film challenges the media's limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which can make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself.
All the events are free of charge and take place at the Library of Birmingham.
