Welcome from the Head of Year 7
The transition into secondary school is a very important step in the life of every young person. Here at EHS, we recognise that it is a big step for every new student we welcome into our community. Our aim is to make the transition as seamless as possible, implementing our school motto, where the staff will be faithful to supporting your daughters to work hard, be brave, to always try their best and strive to be successful.
Before students join us in September, they will already have had the opportunity of spending the whole day with us on Induction Day in July. On this day, they will meet their tutors as well as the other members of their tutor group, experience a taste of what lessons are like at EHS and also have a full tour of the school to familiarise themselves with their new learning environment. Our transition programme continues in September, when your daughters are guided into the EHS community by our experienced Year 7 pastoral team.
Our subject specialist teachers have very high standards and want to support our students to realise their full academic potential. They work in tandem with the pastoral team who aim to encourage girls to become independent learners who take responsibility for themselves, their homework and behaviour. In Year 7, we encourage girls to be resilient and look at ways to work around any inevitable ‘bumps in the road’.
We expect Year 7 pupils to throw themselves into their first year at EHS whilst we get to know their individual personalities, allowing us to nurture and encourage sparks of interest. We work with parents to get the best out of students, encouraging girls to take advantage of the abundance of extracurricular activities such as sports teams and lunchtime clubs.
In addition, we all look forward to our annual residential trip to Kingswood, Staffordshire during the Autumn term, where we get to bond as a Year group and enjoy a campfire complete with hot chocolate and marshmallows.
I look forward to meeting - and getting to know - your daughter.
Mrs Naomi Jones-Owen
