Molly Wins Gold in British National Championships!
22 April 2016
'I have had the most amazing two weeks skiing at the start of the Easter holidays, as an invitational athlete with Parasnowsport GB.
My first event was at the Swiss National Championships in Obersaxen, Switzerland, where I skied in slalom races amongst many other athletes from various countries. My first run was completed in 48.54 seconds, and the second race in 43.29 seconds, giving an overall total of 1.31.83 and 5th place amongst the classified athletes. This meant I lost enough points to be very close to qualifying for the Europa Cup races next season.
I then drove to Tignes in the French Alps to race as Great Britain's only female stand-up at the historic event of the first British National Championships on 26 March 2016 with able bodied racers skiing alongside the disabled skiers. Having completed both runs, I won a gold medal and became the British Ladies Champion in the stand-up ski category. The other two categories are visually impaired and sit-skiers.
What made the whole experience so much lovelier was the support I had as my whole family, as well as my teammates, were watching at the bottom as I completed the slalom runs.
It has taken a lot of hard work and training to get me this far. I am fully aware that I will need to do much more to progress next season, when I hope to start racing in the Europa cup in slalom, and then giant slalom.
After my winning run in the British National Championships, I was quoted by the British Ski and Snowboard Association as saying:'
“I thought I skied really well today – I was very pleased with my performance and the times I put down. My ambition in terms of today was just to finish and hopefully qualify for the World Cup next season. This is my first season of ski racing and it’s been a pretty amazing year – I’m definitely improving with every race and every week. It has been an absolutely incredible week for me here in Tignes. It is completely inspiring and encouraging to meet all the other skiers. They are the best team-mates I could ask for.”
