An Olympic Visit
14 February 2014
On Thursday 13 February, Prep girls from Years 1 - 6 were eagerly anticipating a visit from Olympic swimmer, Joanne Jackson.
On arrival, Joanne immediately put the girls through their paces in some circuit training in the gym.All girls took part in four exercises, cheered on by staff and classmates. The girls have also collected sponsors for this activity which will help Olympic athletes in training and also support the Sports Relief Charity.
After a well-earned break, Joanne talked to the girls about her career, training and successes. She also showed them her silver Olympic medal won at the Beijing games. Our PE captains, Amelia, Elin and Amy then asked Joanne some questions as suggested by other girls in school.
The final part of the visit included some helpful hints and a swimming demonstration in the pool.In the second session, Joanne swam a medley relay against a team of our Prep squad swimmers and four members of staff.
Joanne won, with the staff team of Mrs Aston, Miss Smith, Mrs Woodfield and Miss Jones in a very worthy second place closely followed by our Year 6 girls.Well done to all, especially Miss Dawes who had organised such an enjoyable event for us all!
