the weekly newsletter from Dr Ruth Weeks, Headmistress
09 September 2016
This has been a short but busy first week back at school after the holidays. On Wednesday, there was a definite buzz of excitement as the girls shared their holiday stories. They were clearly very pleased to see each other and to be back at school.
It was a pleasure to welcome our new girls and parents to Westbourne as they start their school journey at EHS. Once parents felt their daughters were settled they enjoyed a more relaxed moment or two over a cup of coffee.
Later on Wednesday morning in assembly we welcomed all new girls and members of staff to Prep. Our new teachers were introduced: Mrs Crompton in Year 4, Mrs Villiers Cundy in Year 5 and Miss Dugdale in Year 6. Girls were also reminded that we no longer have Mrs Barton in the Prep Office and that Mrs Gough has joined Mrs Williams to help them with their questions. We hope all girls and staff will enjoy their time in Prep.
During the week we have focused on being kind friends and making newcomers feel welcome, and three Year 1 girls helped present this message in an assembly on Thursday. In Year 6 they have taken part in some team building activities including drawing stick people by directing the pencil using string.
For everyone in Prep there was the excitement of seeing the new facilities ready for use. The Art Studio and Library are looking colourful and we hope parents will enjoy viewing the rooms at the Parents Information evening next week. I would also ask parents to use the new Prep Reception entry after parking on the playground on Wednesday evening.
We look forward to the term ahead and to welcoming parents to a number of events.
