Swimmers are national finalists
23 June 2017
On Saturday 17 June, a team of girls from Year 6 travelled to the National Swimming Centre, Ponds Forge, in Sheffield to compete in the 23rd English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) Finals. They had qualified for this event in Warwick earlier in the year.
The first event was the Open Schools’ Girls’ Freestyle Relay heats featuring 24 schools. This was a most competitive competition as four schools, including EHS, beat the previous record. The girls easily qualified for the A Final and after some extremely determined swimming finished in an excellent third place.
The second event for us was the Open Schools’ Girls’ Mixed Stroke Relay Heats. Once again, the girls swam extremely well and qualified for the A Final. This was another fast and furious race and after a nail-biting wait the girls were announced as finishing in fourth place, narrowly missing out on a medal.
Miss Dugdale, Mrs Hartley and parents were extremely proud of the girls’ fantastic achievements. Very well done Audrey, Jemima, Julia, Sophie and Daisy!
