Creative Storytellers

Preparatory

19 January 2024

Storytelling can be defined as the social activity of sharing stories, sometimes with improvisation, theatrics or embellishment. We certainly witnessed this in abundance at the Year 3 storytelling morning on Friday.

During their lessons the girls have learnt about the five/six step ‘recipe for telling a story’; Who and Where, The Problem, Friend or Help, Journey and The End.

Each group collaborated to create their own stories, with less than 2 minutes to choose each step. After retelling the story several times the girls have worked hard to add description, feeling and action to their stories.

Finally they worked on presentation skills; speaking so that their words could be understood by a lip-reader, then practising changes in pitch, pace and pause.

Clearly much hard work has gone into developing these stories and we have watched the girls develop confidence, team cooperation and perseverance to make sure that the show goes on. They have certainly made us enthusiastic for Storytelling Week to come.

We hope parents can see how much their daughter has developed through the process.
