Celebrating Chinese New Year in the Senior School

Senior School

07 February 2025

This week, the Senior School was alive with colour, culture, and celebration as we hosted a fantastic Chinese New Year assembly. Pupils from Years 8, 9, and 10 who take part in Mandarin Club, Chinese Calligraphy Club, and Chinese Dance Club put on a vibrant Dragon Dance and a mesmerising traditional performance, truly bringing the festival to life.

The assembly was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the significance of Chinese New Year, which marks the start of the lunar new year. It’s a time for family gatherings, festive feasts, and traditions that bring luck and prosperity for the year ahead. Each year is symbolised by one of the twelve animals from the Chinese zodiac, each with its own unique qualities and attributes.

As we say goodbye to the Year of the Dragon—a symbol of strength and good fortune—and welcome in the Year of the Snake, we hope the entire EHS community embraces the qualities associated with the snake: wisdom, transformation, and personal growth.

We warmly welcome students from various year groups to join in a wide range of activities related to Chinese culture. Here's to a prosperous and enlightening year ahead for all!
