Exploring Freud’s Legacy in London
22 November 2024
Written by Tyra J, Yr 13
On Monday 18 November, Year 12 and Year 13 Psychology students gathered at Grand Central in New Street Station at 8am to start the journey to Hampstead Heath to visit the renowned Freud Museum. This historic house, once the final residence of Sigmund Freud and his family after fleeing Austria during World War Il, has been transformed into a fascinating museum open to the public. It offers an intimate glimpse into Freud's life and work, featuring personal artefacts, the Freud family tree, and valuable insights into his groundbreaking theories, including psychoanalysis. One of the museum's highlights is the iconic couch in his study, where Freud famously psychoanalysed his patients.
After completing our exploration of the museum, we made our way to Leicester Square for a well-deserved lunch. For the remainder of our free time, we spent the afternoon enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of Covent Garden and Leicester Square which included a visit to M&M World, admiring the dazzling London Christmas lights, and exploring the festive Christmas market.
As the day came to an end, we returned to Birmingham, reflecting on a truly enriching and memorable experience.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs Parsons and Ms Purewal for their thoughtful planning and guidance, which made this informative and enjoyable trip possible.
