This week we have welcomed parents into school for a number of different events.
On Wednesday, Year 1 held their Open House morning and parents enjoyed sharing their daughters’ work. Year 1 girls also enjoyed a trip back to visit their Reception teachers and classrooms to reminisce and to talk about life in the Prep Department. This gave Reception girls the opportunity to visit their new Year 1 classrooms ahead of September.
This week also saw our first Inter-House swimming galas of the year cheered on by supportive parents. We started with Year 3 on Thursday morning followed by Year 6 on Friday morning. All points gained for each year group will be added together and the winning House announced at the end of term.
Thursday evening also saw our last Teatime concert of the year with 25 of our Year 5 and 6 musicians performing. After termly concerts of enjoying our soloists performing we are looking forward to our Prep Summer Ensembles Concert on June 13.
Year 6 Parents also joined us to talk to our young entrepreneurs and to view the work completed during the Dragons’ Den project completed as part of the Year 6 Enrichment Programme. You can read more about this next week when we will be able to announce the winning team.
There has been much to enjoy in Science this week with Year 4 applying their knowledge of electrical conductors and insulators to create working switches during their lessons. Meanwhile in Year 5, Super Scientists have experienced more dissection to identify parts of a mouse or rat. There are clearly many budding surgeons amongst them!
Outside of the classroom our Gardening Club enjoyed a dry evening at the allotment and have been designing methods of collecting rainwater for any sunnier days we may have. Year 1 visited the Botanics playground this week to study the safety measures used to keep children safe whilst Year 6 have continued with their Bikeability classes and girls have received certificates and badges for passing their Level 1 or 2. Well done to all!
We have finished the week with our Celebration Assembly. Year 6 girls were congratulated on their week’s endeavours as were our Year 5 musicians. Well done certificates were awarded to Years 1 and 2 for a range of achievements and there were Challenge Board Awards for Emily (Year 6), Talia and Taniah (Year 5), Bonnie (Year 2) and Shahnoor (Year 1). Ciara received her 7th Karate Grade and yellow belt and there was a 400 m swimming certificate and badge for Anant.
This week we also had ABRSM certificates for Samah, Khaiya, Genevieve and Zuli who passed Grade 1 Piano and Arabella, Emiley, Robyn and Zainab who passed their Grade 2 Piano and Catie Grade 4. Our singers have been busy too with a Grade 1 award for Anya, Ruth, Clara, Grade 2 for Katerina and Amaya, Grade 3 for Davica and Grade 4 for Ava. Eliza and Catie both passed their Grade 3 Flute examinations and Megan her Grade 2 Clarinet.
Well done to all girls on their achievements during this half term. I hope everyone enjoys the half term break and look forward to seeing the girls on Monday June 3.
