News From the Head of Prep
17 January 2025
In Prep, we enjoyed our inaugural S.T.E.A.M. week. I am passionate about providing Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics opportunities for our girls and ensuring they are empowered to have the confidence to follow whatever path they choose. Our wonderful Head of Science, Mrs Eveleigh, has been the driving force behind our S.T.E.A.M. week and her passion and enthusiasm for these subjects has been inspirational for pupils and staff alike.
Witnessing the opportunities that our STEAM week has provided for our girls has been such a joy and there has been a wonderful buzz around the school. With our Medical Mavericks workshop, the excitement was tangible and pupils confidently experimented with tools used by surgeons when learning how to carry out keyhole surgery, took blood using a syringe on a trainee ‘arm’, conducted research with a doppler to find out how much more they are likely to grow, recorded their heart rate and found out I was particularly delighted by our Fairytale Engineering challenges which took place at the start of the week and suitably impressed by the original way in which the girls approached these challenges. A Year Three engineering duo produced the most wonderful chair for the ‘three bears’; it was thoughtfully designed with space to store reading materials, a step for baby bear and a suitably sturdy structure to ensure Daddy bear would not break the chair when he sat down! Year One demonstrated a fiercely competitive spirit when designing and building boats to take part in a wind powered race!
Academic excellence is central to life within EHS Prep school, but I believe in order to achieve excellence, we must provide our girls with a well-rounded education. Our STEAM week has been the perfect example of this: hands on learning in an inspirational and nurturing environment. I have no doubt that the girls will have come home brimming with excitement and tales of their educational experiences this week. But what I can say with confidence, is that I have witnessed joy in abundance and this fills me with great pride.
Wishing you all a restful weekend.
