Pupils Achievement Celebrated at Annual Awards Ceremony
02 October 2015
Last Friday, Senior School held its annual Awards Ceremony. In the presence of invited guests, the school celebrated the academic achievements of pupils in Years 7-10 during 2014-2015.
Prizes for Outstanding Academic Achievement were awarded to pupils who had performed particularly well in their end of year examinations.
Certificates for Achievement in Individual Subjects were awarded to pupils who had shown a considerable aptitude and sustained enthusiasm for particular subjects.
Certificates for Progress were given to those pupils who, as evidenced by the school database, had made the most progress during the course of the academic year.
Certificates for effort were awarded on the basis of staff nomination to those pupils who staff felt had worked consistently hard during the whole year.
Although the main focus of the afternoon was a celebration of the many academic achievements of our pupils, we also took the opportunity afforded by the occasion to showcase the wider talents of our students in a variety of musical and dance performances.
Thuy-Vi Nguyen (Year 9) gave an enchanting piano performance of 'River Flows in You' by Yirumi. We were then treated to a most accomplished dance performance by Harine Nemal (also in Year 9) of 'Bharathanatiyam, which is a traditional dance from Southern India. Susannah Murphy (Year 13) followed this with a moving vocal performance of Schumann's 'Widmung Op 25 No. 1' and we should very much like to thank Susie for stepping in at the last minute after the scheduled performer was unfortunately taken ill. This most enjoyable occasion was concluded with a rousing and positively roof-raising performance of 'One Day More' from the Finale of Act 1 of the musical 'Les Misérables' by Schönberg. The School's production of this musical will take place in November and the full cast and soloists took advantage of the opportunity afforded by the Awards Ceremony to show everyone just how hard they have been working in rehearsals.
Congratulations to all of the award winners and grateful thanks to all who contributed towards the staging of this event. We now look forward to celebrating the successes of this academic year.
